In our 20 years, One World Language School has carefully designed a communicative and natural approach to teaching a second language, aligning with Noam Chomsky's theory of language acquisition. Our method mirrors the organic process of acquiring a primary language. To make language learning engaging and enjoyable, we employ a game-based approach. We emphasize language exposure and repetition through immersive experiences, such as puppet skits conducted entirely in the target language. While children may not understand every word initially, the use of visuals, context, body language, and facial expressions helps convey meaning effectively, enabling gradual language acquisition. Total Physical Response (TPR) activities, involving listening, watching, and imitating, engage students on multiple sensory levels, accommodating various learning styles.
We introduce grammar in context, aligning with Chomsky's theory of universal grammar. As students progress in their language journey, grammar is integrated naturally. Our ultimate objective is to nurture genuine language and cultural understanding, equipping students to confidently interact in a country where the target language is spoken.
One World is proud of the impact our approach has had on students. Many have gone on to achieve success in learning additional languages at various academic levels, showcasing the effectiveness and benefits of our communicative and natural language teaching methodology. Learning a second language is not just about acquiring linguistic proficiency; it's about embracing a new culture and broadening one's horizons.
