Tomato Time: Heron Pond Farm Brings Back Annual Tomato Festival

It's the sauciest festival of the year!

August 16, 2023

On Sunday August 20th, Heron Pond Farm is hosting their annual harvest celebration of tomatoes after several years off due to the pandemic. It is going to be bigger and better than ever before, with live music, ice cream, art, and more! The festival is happening from 12pm-4pm and the store is open daily from 9am-6pm. Entry is free for all, but a donation of $5 per person is welcomed and much appreciated. There is fun for the whole family with arts and crafts geared towards kids, plenty of blueberries to be picked and live folk music.

If you’ve never heard of or been to the farm, this is a great opportunity to check it out and partake in community building through local agriculture! Roam the children’s garden and try to find the biggest zucchini you can, taste every variety of heirloom tomato, or just pull up a chair to let the music take you away.

They will be raffling off a Little Blue vegetable share, HPF swag bags, gift cards, and a CSA cookbook full of recipes, nutrition information, historical uses, tips and tricks! There will be samples and snacks to munch on, ice cream to cool off with, and the store will be open to puruse through or do your grocery shopping. Learn about how they grow and care for their tomatoes from seed to harvest and distribution.

Events like these are important for reconnecting with our food system and being an active member of the community. Understanding and knowing where our food comes from helps us to create and lead healthier lives. Keeping your food dollars local and supporting small businesses is a reciprocal investment. When we introduce kids to local farms and food, demystifying the idea that food just comes from stores, we are actively building more humble, socially responsible, and overall healthy future generations.
